Puerto Rico VS Agricola

Played 3 games laterly.

1 3-player game - Javen, Evonne and me
2 solo games at home

I have to say i always play it with the anticipation of a 1st rated game in mind, but did not feel it that way. For the time being, will be doing injustice to poll for either of the games now. It din give me a WOW feeling, but i admit its broader appeal and theme gave it an edge over PR.

Despite din WOWing over it, i rem PR gave me YUCKS feeling in my first play, and i liked it the second time onwards.Will need to try more of it to decide which is better. Play this coming session? Lol. Wei xun will curse and swear.

You bet! Haha. Bad experience with all the games I've played so far because my Occupation + Minor Improvement card draws didn't have synergy with one another. Ended up getting whooped by at least 30 points. I didn't manage to get more than 15 points. Sad…

exactly...xunxun...sometimes i feel coca-cola is luck based...

Boardgamegeek suggests drafting but I've yet to try. Friends said it's much better. Some cards just've to go with specific others, so if you're stuck with that card as your last draw, you also die.

Despite not having tried agricola enuff, i think they are really made differently. Asked to make a choice now, its like having to choose between nasi lemak and yong tau foo. Tough decision. Based on so many possibilities in agricola, i will have to say i need at least 20 plays to decide whether one is 'really' better than the other.

I say dun give up hope so soon. Lol

i would say...coca cola...yes...its has too many possibilities...
but one thing...its nv flexible...jus lots of various 'openings'...

This makes things complicated. If the number 1 game needs to be drafted to be balanced then it is with flaws in the first place. It should have been tested extensively, either it wasn't or it is as it is, meant to be a thematic feeling holding different occupations cards and minor improvements cards.

personally i think its agricola due to its random of action cards and its easier to teach compared to PR.

recently i have been playing the solo version many times and i am filled with a delightful feeling of pleasantness.

i do not know whether is it due to the solo experience itself or i am begining to see light of it. I also felt that it would have been compared more to caylus if not for the ratings wars on BBG with puerto rico.

i went on BGG to read abt the arguements and i found one particularly interesting: "What ratings will Puerto Rico recieve if it was only released today".From that perspective, i almost felt a comparison between agricola and puerto rico does prompt most players to choose agricola immediately.

However, such a comparison is almost very wrong as the beauty of a game cannot be compared linearly. This is like asking me if Elvis Presley did not die, will he beat David Beckham to a global hearttrob in today's time.

Moreover, i am also prompted to answer that thread by saying the gaming community have been in one way or another shaped by Puerto Rico's role selection mechanism. Just look at Cuba. Even agricola's 'revolutionary' design might have been a indirect cause of some other game in your gaming shelf. We dun really know which game/games did it. Could it been the Puerto Rico it manage to dethrone recently? Most likely.

Lastly, i believe i voted for Puerto rico because of the many amazing sessions i had with many good players here.

i had a 2 player session with jason yesterdae.
The results of the game did not surprise me in the sense that i would find agricola lousy or wat.

I kinda of like it.
Hope to play more of it, its really not bad and maybe it might
be my fav game next time.

Played two rounds of agricola today

3 player - The basic deck
4 player - Intermediate deck with draft

On the overall, this game as so much to do but you can't do everything at 1 go. I guess this prevents a clear winning lead, you can try to deny a fellow player, but that can player can just capitalize on another part of his farm which obviously you can't deny as well.

Still need prob another 2-3 games more to make a proper decision. But as of now, its PR for me. (meow!)

I think i am becoming a convert soon. Maybe its because of the number of PR games i played since i learned it. I played the online versions with other good players and also bots about avg 5 times a dae?

On that calculation, maybe i might have played close to 1000 games? that might affect my ratings of it compared to a fresh agricola. let u guys know if i played 1000 games of agricola ok?

to me, its a simple version of caylus. Would like to see a review from Wei Xun, since he is a caylus fan and have played both games considerably.
